CAGE RATS 4, BAT CATS 2 – Colorado Springs batter Jackson Hower drilled a 2-run homer to spark the Cage Rats past the Bat Cats in a game delayed by lightning. Hower wisely launched his homer to right field, helped by a brisk north wind, to drive home Chase Brunson, who walked.
The Bat Cats (18-6) play the Cage Rats at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Cage Rats scored two second-inning runs off starter Payton Tinkler. Noah Shipp scored on a Connor Bertsch groundout. Jim Fafinsky singled home Ben Tate for a 2-0 lead.
Cage Rat pitchers Braedyn Cunningham and Chappell yielded 12 hits, but stranded 10 Bat Cat baserunners. Robby Bolin singled home Nick Parton in the fourth inning. But the rally ended when JoJo Nieves was trapped off third base. Bolin doubled and scored on a ninth inning wild pitch.
Grant Nottlemann and Brady Kreutzer singled to start the sixth inning. The runners were moved back to second base and first base when Matthew Mendez was called out for interfering with the play on a nifty bunt. Parton and Nieves were retired to end the threat.
