Cougar softball rolls to two more Jayhawk wins

DODGE CITY – Things continued to roll along for the Barton softball team.
Friday afternoon in Dodge City the Cougars dominated the Conquistadors, completing its second sweep of a Jayhawk West opponent this week.
Barton dominated on the mound in the opener, winning 5-0 then exploded at the plate during a 14-1 win in the nightcap.
The win improved Barton to 28-2 overall this season and 5-1 in the Jayhawk. Dodge City is 10-10 and 2-4.
The win was the ninth straight for Barton since a split with No. 11 Butler. Butler is also 5-1 in the Jayhawk. Colby leads the conference at 6-0.
The Cougars received impressive pitching in both games. In the opener, Madison Didion allowed just three hits and struck out 14 Conquistadors. The freshman improved to 15-1 on the season.
The career-high strike out total moved Didion into fifth nationally. She has 122 K’s in 94.2 innings of work.
Barton scored twice in the first inning as Brittany Wood singled and later scored on a Jenna Hosey single. Hosey would score on a Posegate single. Barton would add single runs in each of the next three innings. Posegate hit a solo home run in the third.
The Cougars wasted little time in taking control of game two. Barton scored six times in the top of the first and never looked back. The Cougars batted around getting seven singles and a double. Maddison Schofield had two hits in the inning.
The Cougars had 18 hits in the win with Jayden Gonzales getting a double and Posegate her second home run of the day.
Posegate went 4-for-4 with six RBI in the win. She now has five homers and 26 RBI on the season. Wood went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Schofield also ended the game with 3 hits.
While Posegate was dominating at the plate, she was mowing down Dodge City batters to pick up the win pitching.
Posegate allowed five hits and one run to improve to 12-1.
Barton will step outside the conference for the next three doubleheaders. The Cougars will travel to the McPherson JV Monday then host Williston State (ND) Tuesday for two games.
