It was a very good day to get a win for the Barton women’s soccer team.
Coming off a long road trip with a loss in the season opener, the Cougars opened the 2017 home portion of their schedule with a 3-0 win over Central Christian College at the Cougar Field.
And what a good time for a win. Not only did it come just two days after the opening loss but now Barton has a week off before its next game.
That week will be now be on the heels of a win.
The Cougars next action will be a road trip to Sedalia, Mo. and State Fair Community College. It will be the first of five straight road games for the Barton women.
In the win over the Tigers, Barton erupted for three second half goals. The Cougars scored three times in 10 minutes for all the scoring in the game.
This after not scoring in the season’s first 140 minutes.
Jessica Simental scored Barton’s first goal and the first of her collegiate career just five minutes into the second half.
Larissa Fagundes made it 2-0 five minutes later when she put a rebound off a Tressa Becker shot in the net from 18 yards out.
The scoring continued when Fagundes scored her second goal of the game. This time the freshman from Brazil took a pass from Priscilla Munoz, made her way through the defense and scored to the far post for a 3-0 lead with 30 minutes left.
After a week off, the Cougars will be road warriors starting at State Fair. Barton will then have four straight Jayhawk West games on the road before returning home to take on Hesston in Sept. 19.
