Cougar women respond with big win; Colby next
spt CougarHead2C

Coming off its first loss of the season and heading into Jayhawk Conference play this weekend, Wednesday night was the perfect night for a tune up for the Barton women’s basketball team.
The Cougars had very little trouble getting that loss out of their system and preparing for the Colby Trojans Saturday night.
Barton rolled to a 83-48 win over the Sterling JV, finishing the brief non conference slate with a 3-1 record.
“It’s important for us to get off to a good start to the conference season,” Coach Alan Clark said of the upcoming game. “It’s a long season, so its obviously not a must, but it is important for us.”
It didn’t take long for Barton to get rolling. The Cougars bolted to an 18-2 lead less than six minutes into the game and never looked back.
Barton led 23-10 after the first quarter. By halftime the lead reached 43-24. The lead hit the 30-point mark in the fourth quarter at 78-48 as the Cougars cruised to the win.
A key to the game was the defense and points off that defense for Barton. The Cougars forced 34 Sterling JV turnovers which resulted in 38 points for Barton.
Offensively, it was a very balanced attack for Barton. Six players scored at least nine points while four reached double figures in the win.
Fatou Ndao led the Barton in scoring with 14 points, followed by Juliana Chagas with 13. Taylor Regan and Irene Chudwuki each added 12.
Jaylin Stapleton and Mallory Miller each added nine. Ndao made it a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds for the 6-2 freshman from Senegal. Stapleton finished with five assists and Chagas four.
Regan, a freshman from Otis-Bison had a nice game with eight rebounds and five steals to go with her 12 points.
Now it’s on to the Jayhawk Conference and Colby. Colby visits the Barton Gym Saturday night for a 5:30 p.m. tip. The Trojans are also 3-1 on the young season.
