Coming off a tough loss at Garden City, the Barton women’s soccer team needed to get back on track Saturday afternoon at Goodland.
They did just that.
The Cougars rolled to a 6-0 blanking of Northwest Tech in a key region battle as they look for the best seed possible in the upcoming Region VI tournament.
Barton scored twice in the opening half then poured it on in the second half to improve to 5-5-1 overall and 4-4 in the region. Northwest Tech is now 1-8-1 overall and 1-7 in the region.
Barton is currently in a battle with Garden City and Dodge City for spots 3-4-5 in the upcoming Region VI post-season tournament. Garden is 5-3 and Dodge 4-5. Each team has at least three key games left in the region for positioning.
Saturday in Goodland, Barton received a hat trick from sophomore Adriana Reyes to key the win. Reyes scored both first half goals midway through the opening 45 minutes of action.
The Cougars came out in the second half and scored one minute in to push the lead to 3-0 on a Kirsty Ashworth goal. Reyes completed her hat trick with 20 minutes left in the game and Maddison Schofield scored less than five later to make it 5-0.
The Cougars Rachel Craft completed the scoring with 7:30 to play.
