SNYDER, Texas — The Barton Community College men’s soccer team ended its season on the road at the NJCAA Plains District championship game.
Western Texas College, led by former Barton women’s head soccer coach Shawn Uhlenhake, beat the Cougars 2-0 to advance to the national tournament.
“It was a very close game,” Barton head coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. “Our center defender, Diogo Quirino, broke his nose five minutes into the match, so we had to re-shape our team, and we ended up giving up a breakaway in the second half.”
With 16 minutes remaining, the Westerners scored the first of their two goals. The second goal came with five minutes remaining.
The Cougars end their final season with Twelvetrees at the helm 16-3-1 overall.
Twelvetrees accepted the head coaching job at Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Fla.
“It was a good season,” Twelvetrees said. “Unfortunately, it ended sooner than we would’ve liked. It was a tough loss, but I’m certainly proud of how the boys played both in this game, and the whole season.
“It’s been a pleasure coaching here at Barton, and I hope these kids have great success in the future.”
