Cougars land five players on all-conference teams

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team had five players selected to the 2011 All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference teams released on Wednesday. 
The Cougars placed four on the first team and one on the second team as Barton finished the 2011 season at 12-8 after being knocked out in the semifinals of the Region VI Tournament. 
Landing on the first team was sophomore forward Fabio Almeida, sophomore midfielders Nestor Morales and Igor Barbosa, and sophomore defender Amaugo Iwunze. Earning second team honors was sophomore midfielder Ahmad Bah. 
Almeida led the Barton offensive attack with 12 goals on the season as 18 players scored at least one goal and 20 finished with at least one assist. 
Morales finished with nine goals and nine assists with Bah close behind with seven goals and eight assists
Barton will look to reload for the 2012 campaign as fifteen sophomores played their last game as a Cougar. In their two seasons, Barton went 37-8-1 which included a conference and regional championship, and third-place national finish.
 
Lady Cougars have three players selected
The Barton women’s soccer team had three players selected to the 2011 All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference teams.
The Lady Cougars placed one on the second team while two received honorable mention honors as Barton finished the 2011 conference season at 8-4 and achieved its fifth straight winning season at 9-8-1. 
Sophomore forward Monica McCarthy, of Wichita, was named to the second team while sophomores Haley Gerleman, also from Wichita, and Jordan Gallacher, of Murray, Utah, earned honorable mention honors. 
The Lady Cougars will look to replace 10 sophomores who went 23-15-1 in their two years at Barton which included last year’s Region VI semifinal finish. 
Barton will look to rebuild with eight returning freshman and head coach Shawn Uhlenhake’s first full season of recruiting.
