Sollid offense in the first game, followed by solid pitching in the nightcap, the Barton Community College baseball team opened the 2013 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division season on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Pratt.

Due to a location change because of wet field conditions in Pratt, the two games were played at Barton’s Lawson-Biggs Field with Barton playing the visitor role for the doubleheader. The Cougars rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to win Game 1, 13-12, then received eight innings of solid pitching from Skylar Hill to win Game 2, 10-7.

Barton improves to 5-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while Pratt drops to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference. The Cougars will return to the diamond on Friday, playing host to Seward County. The 9-10 Saints opened conference play earlier this week, winning three of four games against Butler.

Game time for today’s doubleheader is 4 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field, with the same two teams playing again on Saturday in another doubleheader, starting at 1.
