After defeating Northwest Tech Wednesday, the Barton women’s soccer team knew its path the post season was in sight.
Two wins and the Cougar would be part of the Region VI post season.
The first of those wins came Saturday as Barton took care of business in the final home match of the season.
Barton wasted little time in getting control of the Jayhawk West match against Pratt on the way to a 7-1 win over the Beavers.
The win improved Barton to 7-4-2 in the region standings with 23 points. Overall the Cougars are 8-5-3. Pratt is 2-12 and 2-15.
More importantly, the win moved Barton ahead of Dodge City in the region standings. The Conquistadors are 7-5-1 with 22 points.
Both Barton and Dodge have one game left for that fourth and final playoff spot from the West. Dodge is at a winless Garden City team. That means the Cougars will probably have to go on the road and beat No. 20 Northwest Tech one more time to keep the season alive.
That match is set for 3 pm Monday in Goodland.
Barton scored early in the contest and never trailed. The Cougars took the lead on a Tressa Becker goal just minutes in and kept scoring. Barton led 3-0 at half and by as many as 7-0 before the Beavers finally got on the board in the final 12 minutes of the contest.
Seven different Cougars scored in the win for Barton. The Cougars got off 40 shots putting 31 of them on goal. Pratt got off just two shots the entire contest.
Barton has now won three straight and is 5-1-1 in its last seven outings.
If the Cougars do get by Northwest Tech, they would match up against either Butler or Johnson County in the first round of the Region VI playoffs Saturday.
