COUGARS 5, HUTCHINSON 3 — Barton Cougar pitcher Reese Hemmerling shut down No. 10 ranked Hutchinson Community College 5-3 in Wednesday’s Region 6 baseball tournament. Hemmerling pitched nine innings and struck out three batters. Hemmerling threw 99 pitches for his sixth complete game. The Blue Dragons beat the Cougars three of four times in the league season.

"Reese attacked the strike zone and threw three pitches for strikes," said Barton coach Brett Biggs. "He made good pitches and has thrown well back-to-back. It was high-level baseball."

Barton’s Owen Clyne drove in three runs with two hits and a sacrifice fly.

Robby Bolin tripled and scored on Clyne’s first-inning sacrifice fly.

"Robby is one of the best players in the league," Biggs said. "Bolin and Clyne got us started. It's good to score one early. The Hutchinson pitcher gave us fits earlier in the year."

Hutchinson regained the lead 2-1. Blake Bradford doubled home Quinn Mater and Jordan Tucker’s double scored Bradford after two innings.

Cole Schieffer reached base on an error and Bolin bunted safely in the sixth inning. Clyne’s triple scored both runners off Hutchinson starter Ethan Giesbrecht (11-3). Kyle Horsman singled home Clyne and Grant Nottlemann doubled home Horsman in the eighth inning or a 5-2 lead.

"An error started it, and we got key 2-out hits," Biggs said. "Clyne swung it really well."

Hutchinson’s Bradford drove in Cooper Wesslund after a ninth-inning triple for a 5-3 final.

NO. 1 JOHNSON COUNTY 9, BUTLER 3 — Johnson County delivered six doubles. Miken Miller drove in three runs. Jake McClure and Jack Mosh each drove in two runs. John Chambers (5-1) pitched five relief innings.

NO. 15 KANSAS CITY 3, CLOUD 1 — Kansas City pitcher Maclane Finley (12-2) struck out six batters while yielding seven hits.

Kansas City's Brady Patterson, Freddie Nolan and Marcus Dierks drove in runs.

NO. 19 COWLEY 8, DODGE CITY 5  — Cowley College rallied from a 4-1 deficit with seven runs.  Dodge City handed Cowley three free runs on bases-loaded walks.

Jadyn McNealy, Kade Sheldon and Keaton Campbell delivered RBs in a 3-run eighth inning.
