Dodge City rallies to beat Barton in overtime, 73-67

DODGE CITY — Another overtime game; another overtime unkind for the Barton Community College men’s basketball team.
Dodge City became the fourth team to send the Cougars down to defeat in overtime this season. The Conquistadors rallied from a 36-23 halftime deficit to beat the Cougars 73-67 in OT on Monday night at the Dodge City Civic Center.
DCCC southpaw set-shooter Jordan Wilcox nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points for the Conquistadors, who improved to 15-8 overall, 5-5 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division. Yves Saintelo added 19 points and Bruce Massey scored 12 points for DCCC.
Barton dropped its third straight game, falling to 17-8 overall, 5-6 in conference play and 0-4 in overtime games.
Power forward Dwyane Brunson had 17 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Storm Sanders finished with 16 points and a team-high six assists for the Cougars.
Colin Beatty had 14 points and four assists, and Adam Young had nine points and 15 rebounds for Barton, which returns home to play Garden City on Wednesday night.
Barton led 53-45 before Wilcox started an 8-0 Conqs run by hitting a driving layup at the 6:24 mark. DCCC also made 3 of 4 free throws before Wilcox’s 3-pointer with 3:57 remaining tied the score at 53.
BCC went back up, 56-53, after a basket by Sanders and 1 of 2 free throws by Carl Wallace at the 3:12 mark.
But Dodge closed to 56-54 after Saintelo made the second of two foul shots at the 1:17 mark, and later sent the game into OT with 9.5 seconds left after making two free throws.
In the extra session, after a Wallace free throw, Beatty made a pair of baskets to give BCC a 61-60 lead with 3:33 remaining.
Dodge went ahead 63-61 at the 3:18 mark before Sanders hit a driving layup and 1 of 2 free throws on the Cougars’ next two possessions for a 64-63 Cougars lead.
But Saintelo made the first of two free throws and then Wilcox nailed a dagger 3 with 1:47 left for a 66-64 lead, and the Conqs never trailed again.
