The Barton Community College softball team finds itself in midst of a four-game losing skid after dropping a pair of games against Garden City on Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Field.
Garden City won the first game, 17-3, in five innings, and edged the Lady Cougars 10-9 in Game 2.
In Game 1, both teams finished the first inning with a pair of runs, but the Lady Broncbusters scored three runs in the second, three in the third, five in the fourth and four in the fifth before the Lady Cougars got another run to cross the plate.
Allison Smith, Ashlynn Osborne and Erica Harper recorded RBIs for Barton.
Emilia Davies went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored.
In the second game of the twinbill, Barton came out of the first inning ahead 3-2.
Things changed in the third inning, as Garden City scored two runs to lead 5-4.
With a run in the top of the fourth and another in the sixth, the Lady Broncbusters led 7-4 when the Lady Cougars unleashed a five-run explosion in the bottom of the sixth.
Osborne, who worked the circle in the second game for Barton, couldn’t maintain the lead through the seventh inning to close out the win.
Davies had a pair of home runs and four RBIs, and Smith and Osborne each had homers in the game.
Bailey Hensley and Brianna Ward each had doubles in Game 2.
Hensley, Smith and Osborne each recorded an RBI.
The Lady Cougars fall to 11-7 overall, 2-4 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action.
Garden City improves to 11-14, 3-3.
Barton hosts Kansas Wesleyan JV on Friday. The doubleheader starts at 1:30 p.m.
