The Barton Community College softball team wrapped up regular season play on Sunday in McCook, Neb., rebounding from a 5-4 loss to win Game 2 14-6 at McCook.
The Lady Cougars rallied from a four-run deficit in Game 1 to tie it up in the sixth, but a two-out double sent Barton to its 11th straight loss.
Barton trailed again in Game 2 by one after the first but scored nine in the next two innings, highlighted by Emilia Davies’ grand slam as Barton cruised to the 14-6 five-inning contest.
Barton was scheduled to wrap up regular season play on Monday at North Platte but rains sweeping through the state forced the cancellation.
Barton finishes the regular season at 19-22 and 3-13 for fourth place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
The Lady Cougars will begin NJCAA Region VI Tournament play on Saturday at Wichita State University’s Wilkins Stadium, taking on fifth-place Colby in the 10 a.m. game.
The winner of the Barton-Colby matchup will play No. 7-ranked Butler at 2 p.m. while the loser will play the 4 p.m. elimination game against the loser of the noon Seward County-Garden City.
