Weather was able to play havoc with Central Kansas Classic Monday and Tuesday. But it was not able to phase Barton golfer Jakkapat Horsangchai.
The Cougar sophomore led from start to finish in winning the Classic at the Turkey Creek Golf Course, shooting a 4-under par 206 for the three rounds.
Thunderstorms pushed back the scheduled 36-hole day from Monday to Tuesday. The teams played 18 on Monday and 36 on Tuesday to complete the 54-hole event.
Bethany won the event with an 856 total, well ahead of Sterling College, which took second with an 883. Barton was third at 903, besting fellow Jayhawk school Coffeyville’s 914.
The Cougars shot 310 on the tough first day then came back with rounds of 300 and 293 on Tuesday to pass the Red Ravens on the final round.
Horsangchai was solid throughout, starting with an even par 70 on a wet, windy Monday then closing with back-to-back 68’s on Tuesday. That was the only score under par, besting Sterling’s Dalton Bartlett, who shot an even par 210.
Seokhun Kang finished 10th overall, shooting solid rounds in the first and third round but struggling in the second round. Kang shot 72-79-72 for his 223 total and 10th overall.
Freshman Thitipong Homruen finished in the top 20, shooting at 228 for 18th place. Homruen had a tough opening day at 79 then closed with 75-74 Tuesday.
Christian VanNover and Riley Kane both struggled during Monday’s round. VanNover shot 89-78-81 for a 248 while Kane went 90-86-79 for a 255.
Playing as individuals, Calin Meyer and Dakota Soukup has three solid rounds. Meyer shot 80-74-75 for 229, good for 20th place. Soukup went 80-75-79 for a 234 in 22nd.
The final meet of the fall season will Oct. 24 at StoneRidge in Great Bend.
