The final touches on a regular season title are in the books for the Barton men’s soccer team.

The Cougars closed out the season with a 3-0 win over Seward County Monday afternoon at the Barton Sports Complex.

With the win, 5th ranked Barton closes out the regular season with a 9-1-2 conference mark, good for 29 points. That is five points better than runner-up Cowley, which finished 8-4 for 24 points.

Barton will play a non-league contest against Newman in Wichita later today.

The Plains District Championship will get underway this weekend.

In the conference season finale against the Saints, the Cougars jumped to an early lead and never looked back.

Barton scored twice in the opening half against Seward.

Lucas Constante scored his 12th goal of the season midway through the opening half to get the Cougars on the board.

Loic Kanku made it a 2-0 game less than six minutes later with his fourth goal and Barton was well on the way to the easy win.

The Cougars added an Augusto Miliato goal early in the second half for the 3-0 final score.

Barton dominated play during the win.

The Cougars got off 24 shots during the win to just one for the Saints. Barton put 14 of those shots on goal while the Saints did not get a shot on goal.

Barton had six corner kicks to none for Seward.

The Jayhawk Conference title is the 13th in the 22 year history of the program. Barton won last year, giving them back-to-back regular season titles for the first time since 2018 and 2019.

Now focus turns to the postseason and the Plains District Championships.

That event will get underway Saturday with Barton hosting a first round game.

The Plains District will consist of teams from both Region VI and Region 16 in Missouri.

Barton, 14-1-3 on the season, will find out who its first round foe will be most likely today.
