Lady Cougars advance to Region VI quarterfinals

ARKANSAS CITY — The Barton Community College women’s basketball team took to the road on Saturday afternoon, competing in a first-round game of the NJCAA Region VI Basketball Tournament against Cowley.
The Lady Cougars, who were the No. 12 seed heading into the tournament, was able to upset the fifth-seeded Lady Tigers 82-76.
It was anyone’s game after the first half with the game tied at 31 points.
The Lady Cougars came out and made 65.4 percent (17 of 26) of their field goals in the second half, holding back the Lady Tigers.
Brandy Winbush scored 17 points, a career-high. She went 5-for-7 from 3-point range in the game.
Cheyenne Hedrington finished with a team-leading 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Mariana Lambert added 16 points, and Ashton Bruner scored 14 points.
Barton advances to the quarterfinal round of the Region VI tournament.
The game will be on Wednesday against Seward County, which beat Neosho County 90-36.
