No. 3 Barton men rout Pirates, 83-56

INDEPENDENCE — The No. 3 ranked Barton Community College Cougars coasted past Independence 83-56 for nine consecutive wins in Wednesday's Jayhawk Conference basketball game.

Barton (18-1, 12-1 Jayhawk) remains tied with Cowley College (17-2, 12-1) for first place.  Independence is riding am 18-game losing streak after winning its opener.

Barton's Ring Malith (16), Myles Thompson (13), Keandre Kindell (13) and Lajae Jones (10) scored in double figures. Jones grabbed seven rebounds.

Barton sprinted to a 15-2 lead for a 39-26 halftime lead. Barton sprinted ahead by 14 points in the second half to win its sixth straight in the series and second consecutive at the ICC Field House.

Doubling up the Pirates in bench production, Kindell scored 13 points with Brent Moss adding 9 as Amiri Ndayisaba led Barton plus-11 rebound advantage in pulling down 7 coming off the bench to match Jones' board total. Mozae Downing-Rivers led the distributions on the evening with a game high six assists while adding nine points in his 25-minutes of court time.

Cory Curtis, Jr scored 15 points on 4-of-16 shooting as Keah Paljor finished with 9 points.

The Cougars return home Saturday against Pratt Community College on Hall of Fame Saturday. The induction recognition ceremony takes place after the earlier women's game.
