MCPHERSON – The No. 9 ranked NJCAA Barton Community College women's tennis team downed McPherson College 5-2 in a dual match.

The Cougars (6-2) swept three doubles matches before winning four of the singles contests.

Barton NCAA Division 2 Fort Hays State and Newman in the Stueder Contractors Classic March 15-16.

Barton's No. 1 doubles tandem of Luciana Braga and Carmen Lyons swept singles and doubles matches. No. 18 Braga (8-0) won 6-2, 6-4 over Camila Sanchez. No. 4 singles Lyons won 7-5, 0-6 (10-8) over Taimi Nashiku.

“Luciana continues her winning streak at McPherson and remains unbeaten,” said Barton coach Lyle Stickney. “She’s a hot commodity. Numerous DI colleges are recruiting her. She’s dealt with the distractions very well and remains focused.”

Barton’s No. 2 doubles Andjela Mrvaljevic/Andrea Pulido and No. 3 doubles Ana Vasilis and Ana Alice Tosetto earned wins.

No. 39 Mrvaljevic traded beat Zeynep Barut, 6-3, 3-6 (10-7). No. 5 Vasilis won 6-2, 7-5.

“The women are on a roll,” Stickney said. “They picked up their fourth straight win and move up a spot to No. 9nationally.”
