CHANUTE — While a pair of narrow losses made for an early exit for the Barton Community College Cougars at the NJCAA VI Baseball Super Regional, top-seeded, No. 9 nationally-ranked and host Neosho County advanced after it run-ruled Johnson County 10-0 in five innings on Monday.
The Cougars closed their season with a 37-21 overall record after falling to Johnson County 8-7 and Pratt 6-5 on Saturday at Hudson Field.
Neosho County (45-12) advances to the Region VI Baseball Championships on May 14-16 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, joining Garden City, Liberal and Colby as champions from their respective super regionals.
Garden City knocked out host Cowley County 9-7 in a super regional title game on Monday at Arkansas City. Host Seward County beat Coffeyville 11-1 in five innings on Monday in Liberal, while host Colby defeated Fort Scott 7-5 on Monday.

HEARTBREAK HOTEL

The Cougars had some heartbreak in both games.
Barton had a four-run eighth come up a run shy in the 8-7 loss to Johnson County. In the loss to Pratt, Barton led 5-0 through six-plus innings behind the pitching of Keith Picht.
Picht allowed a single run in the seventh, and the Cougars bullpen was unable to close it out after Picht allowed the first two batters to reach base.

WHO DAT?

Host Neosho County committed the biggest blunder of the day on Saturday, forgetting to print game programs for the fans for the super regional at Hudson Field. Unless the fans had access to the lineup card, they were left in the dark and without a list of rosters and records of each team.
