BAT CATS 7, CANNONS 4 — Kirby Orth delivered a 2-run single to ignite a 7-4 victory over the Augusta Cannons in Friday's Jayhawk Collegite League baseball game

The first-place Bat Cats (13-4, 11-4 Jayhawk) lead the league over Haysville (9-4) and Derby (9-4) while the Cannons drop to 9-9.

Great Bend's starter Quentin Medrano (3-0, 5.21 ERA) yielded four runs before he teamed with relievers Eli Lang (3.60 ERA) and Mason Murphy (1.57 ERA) for seven shutout innings.

Orth (.271) singled home George McCarroll and T.J. Shaw for a 2-2 tie.

"The first pitch is sometimes the best one you'll see, so I looked first pitch heater," Orth said.

Augusta's Wyatt Reeder and Aiden Cope hit RBI first-inning singles. Jackson Witt scored on a walk and Thatcher Baughman scored on a groundout for a 4-2 lead.

Great Bend scored the final five runs.

Chase Chapman scored on Dylan Sarna's second-inning sacrifice fly. Decarlo Delancy delivered the go-ahead single to drive home McConnell and Shaw for the second time.

Great Bend added two eighth-inning insurance runs. Orth singled, stole second base and scored on Peanut Brazzle's single. Brazzle scored on Chapman's double for a 7-4 lead.
