It was a great year for Barton sophomore standout Renan Sousa. He received one more accolade for that tremendous season this past week when he was named a second team NJCAA All-American.
Sousa, a midfielder from Brazil, was the 14th Cougar to receive All-American honors and the first since 2013. He was the only player from the region to be named among the 33 players honored first, second, or third team.
This past season scored 14 goals and added 15 assist for the Cougars. That was good enough to earn him the Player of the Year award in the Jayhawk Conference. His 15 assists were just one shy of a school record. He finished the season with 43 points – ninth all-time in a single season at Barton.
Sousa also ranks in the top ten in career points with 60, eighth all time. His 18 career assists are fourth all time and the 21 goals scored are 10th all-time.
Sousa was a 2-time first team All-Region VI player and twice an All-Conference selection. He was a second team pick as a freshman before earning first team and Player of the Year honors this past year.
