Wilson, Adderly hit 400m qualifying mark for Barton men

The list of events the Barton men’s track team will take competitors for the NJCAA Indoor Championships added the 400m at the Frank Sevigne Invitational this past weekend.
The Cougars made it 13 of the 19 events they have qualified at least one entrant when Jacquez Wilson and Anthony Adderly both finally hit the mark needed in the 400m on the campus of the University of Nebraska.
Wilson ran a 48.17 and Adderly a 48.86 to get under the 49.16 needed to qualify. Kadeem Williams, who has a 49.19 this year, just missed again with his 49.38.
With just the Region VI Championships to go before the national meet, the Cougars now have at least two qualifiers in nine of the 16 individual events. Barton has the full allotment of three qualified in six of those events.
Barton just missed making it three qualifiers in the 60m as Chedline Sageese continues to just miss the mark of 6.87 needed. Sageese ran a 6.89 and already has a 6.88 this year as well. McKinley West ran 6.84 over the weekend to match his season-best.
West also ran a 21.86 in the 200m and Alex Richemond a 22.07. Both have already earned their spot in the NJCAA meet.
The Cougars 60m hurdles duo of Jermaine Jones and Louis Rivers ran nearly identical times of 8.30 and 8.31. For Rivers it was a season-best effort. Jones ran an 8.29 earlier in the season.
In the field, the Cougars did very well in the jumps. Leon Boyd and Denroc Dixon placed 5th and 6th in the long jump at the stacked meet. Boyd jumped 23-8.25 and Dixon 23-6.75. For Boyd it was his best jump of the year while Dixon has a leap of 23-10. Both are in the top six in the nation this year at the NJCAA level.
In the triple jump, Boyd again edged out Dixon with a leap of 48-6.75 to 48-4.75. Those two along with Adama Mbye all have top five efforts this season in the NJCAA.
Donald Daley and Stevon Crooks competed in the throwing events with Daley throwing the weight throw 58-7.25 and Crooks the shot 50-4.0. Daley has the third best throw in the nation this year in the weight at 59-11.
The 4x400m relay team bettered its qualifying time as Wilson, Adderly, Williams and Richemond ran a 3:13.88 – the best time in the NJCAA this year.
Barton is off next week with the Region VI Championships Feb. 19-20 at Pittsburg State. The NJCAA Championships will take place March 4-5 and Winston-Salem, N.C.
