HAYS – Hoisington's three-time state champion Wyatt Pedigo (37-0, 195) cruised to another state wrestling championship. The North Dakota bound football player proved again he's one of the state's best wrestlers.

Larned's Samajay Alboyd (27-4, 145) joined his Central Kansas League member as a state wrestling champion. Larned scored 72 points to place fifth.

Pedigo beat Southeast Saline's Sterling Harp 11-3 in the championship match. Pedigo downed Mission Valley's Jon Grame (2:35);  Norton's Gavin Sproul, 17-6 and Rawlins County's Cyrus Green, 10-3 to reach the state finals.

Larned's Alboyd edged Kingman's Colby Schreiner 5-3 in the championship match. Alboyd defeated Wellington's Bird, 15-6; St. Marys Huaracha (3:59) and Oakley's Stephenson (3:07) to reach the state finals.

Larned featured three other medalists. Michael Saenz (26-9, 120) placed fourth with a hard-fought 5-3 loss to Remington's Wyatt Wright. Dillen Hook (31-3, 113) avenged a loss with a 5-1 fifth-place victory over Smith Center's Bentley Montgomery, Smith Center, 5-1. No. 3 ranked Braydon Lemuz (30-6, 138) placed fifth with a 6-victory over Goodland's  Mason Hernandez.

Hoisington scored 68 points to place seventh. Hoisington also placed three other medalists. No. 4 Joshua Ball (26-4, 170) placed third with a pin in 1:40 over Oberlin's Gavon Uehlin. No. 4 Cole Steinert (29-8, 152) finished fourth with a loss (3:15) against Hoxie's Aidan Baalman. Eastin Redetzke (26-17, 106) placed sixth with a 6-5 loss to Minneapolis' Gage Carlson.

Norton (120) won the team title behind state champions Darius Shields (106), Kolton Field (120) and Cole Amlong (170). Hoxie (113) placed runner-up.
