STERLING — Sterling's 5-foot-10 Bennie Horsch dominated the paint with 31 points as the No. 1 2A Black Bears rolled past No. 1 1A Central Plains 59-46 in Tuesday's non-league basketball game. Horsch powered inside and converted 7 of 8 free throws. The Black Bears (7-0) outscored the Oilers 30-17 after halftime. Makenna Linden added 12 points.

Sterling coach Jill Rowland owns three head-to-head victories against Central Plains coach Pat Stiles, who is 207-6 with the Oilers.

Brynna Hammeke and Lexi Oeser each led Central Plains (6-2) with 13 points.

HOISINGTON — Hillsboro's girls overpowered Hoisington 47-22 with a stifling defense that led to a 47-22 Central Kansas League basketball victory. Hiullsboro (6-1, 1-0) was paced by Teegan Werth with 11 points and Jessica Saunders with 10 points. The Trojans led 20-4 at halftime.

Hoisington (3-4, 0-1 CKL) was led by Macy Hanzlick with nine points.

HOISINGTON — Hillsboro point guard Breckyn Ratzlaff scored 13 points and controlled play with his ballhandling and passing as the Trojans upset No. 4 3A Hoisington 60-51 in Tuesday's Central Kansas League basketball game.

Hillsboro (5-1, 1-0 CKL) also placed Matthew Potucek (12), Dillon Boldt (11) and Grayson Ratzlaff (10) in double figures. The Trojans had seven players hit first-half 3-pointers for a 28-20 halftime lead.

Hoisington (5-2, 0-1 CKL) was paced by Drew Nicholson with 17 points and Mason Haxton with 13 points. The Cardinals hurt its cause with two technical fouls that handed the Trojans four free throws and the basketball.

The Tigers (5-4, 2-1 CPL) led 26-16 and lost control with an efficient offense and aggressive defense that forced 15 Ellinwood turnovers.

Leading scorer Brittany Simpson scored 14 points and Bella Baker added eight points. The Eagles converted 3 of 20 shots from 3-point range.
