HOISINGTON – It was not a happy Winter Homecoming for the Hoisington Cardinals in a 62-34 loss to the Lyons Lions in Friday's Central Kansas League basketball game.
Lyons hit buzzer-beaters to end the first and second quarters and outscored the Cardinals 33-3 on 3-pointers to trigger a running clock in the fourth quarter. Rey Alamos sank a 40-footer to end the first quarter and scored six 3-pointers and 22 points. Point guard Trey McClure exploited the Cardinals' help defense with assist after assist including a 21-point scoring night.
Hoisington's Mason Haxton scored 15 points. Leading scorer Drew Nicholson scored six points against quality Lyons defense. The Cardinals play Phillipsburg at home Monday.
