HOISINGTON — The extra pass turned the momentum Hoisington's way. The Cardinals outscored Haven 27-6 to turn a 36-25 deficit into a 52-42 advantage with fierce defense and amazing passing.
Drew Nicholson sparked the Cardinals with 24 points in a 56-46 Central Kansas League victory over the Haven Wildcats Tuesday.
Haven (10-3, 3-1 CKL) led 36-25 after the Wildcats used a 9-2 scoring run off two Darby Roper baskets and scores by Jevon Jevon Miller and Beniah Yoder.
Holt Hanzlick ignited the Cardinals' passing with an assist, a basket and a charging foul drawn. Hanzlick fed Nicholson for a basket for a 36-34 score.
It was Ryan Woydziak's turn to play hero with back-to-back assists to Nicholson for a 40-39 score. Nicholson returned the favor to Woydziak for a 3-pointer and a 42-40 lead. Richards fed Woydziak and Dylan Richards passed to Woydziak for a 47-42 lead. Hanzlick's final assist led to Nicholson's final 3-pointer.
"We shared the basketball," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "It was a great team effort. It was good to see Drew Nicholson get going. The kids responded. We played soft, turned the ball over and gave up some 3s."
