HOISINGTON 26, BELOIT 20

HOISINGTON  — Hoisington’s Holt Hanzlick scored three touchdowns as the No. 2 ranked Cardinals survived 26-20 against Beloit in 2A, District 8 football. Hanzlick scored on 1-and 7-yard runs and converted a 10-yard pass from quarterback Mason Haxton with eight seconds left in the first half.

Hanzlick was a defensive terror with six tackles and 10 tackles with two stops for losses. Logan Robinson contributed six tackles and five assists. Chase Robinson intercepted a pass.

The Cardinals (8-0, 5-0 District) will play Ellis (3-5) Oct. 31 in the 2A playoffs.

Hoisington failed to build momentum heading to the 2A playoffs. The Cardinals rushed for 164 yards, half of their average.  Beloit (2-6, 1-3) rushed for 160 yards and had 58 yards passing.

“Beloit played harder than we did, so a lot of credit goes to them,” said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. “It’s a lack of effort.”

Beloit quarterback Owen Eilert connected for touchdown passes to Brycn Corbett and Hunter Prohaska to keep the Trojans within one touchdown.
