Barton falls in straight sets to No. 3 Johnson County

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Barton Community College volleyball team found the trip to Iowa this past weekend to be rough going as the Lady Cougars dropped all four matches of the Reiver Classic hosted by Iowa Western in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Barton opened the season on Friday with a straight set loss to Division-II No. 3-ranked Johnson County 25-18, 25-21 and 25-21.  
The Lady Cougars returned to floor three hours later to play their second-consecutive Region VI foe and ranked Division-II opponent, dropping a four-set contest to Cowley 27-29, 25-20, 25-13 and 20-13.
Looking to rebound on Saturday, Barton lost in straight sets to Jefferson College 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14.   
The task at hand didn’t get any easier as the Lady Cougars wrapped up the two-day tournament taking on the Division-I second-ranked and host Iowa Western.  
The Reivers made short work in the first set, winning 25-8 before taking care of business 25-19 and 25-10 to send the Lady Cougars home 0-4 to start the season.
Barton will open the home portion of the schedule on Wednesday as the Lady Cougars host Seward County in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.
Match time set for 6:30 p.m. at the Barton Gym with free admission.
