OTERO, Colo. – It was another even weekend for the Barton women’s basketball team. The Cougars were looking for a couple wins but came away with a split of games at the Otero Classic over the weekend in Colorado.

Barton opened the Classic Friday with a 90-76 loss to Otero then came back with a 56-45 win over Trinidad State (Colo) Saturday to close out the classic.

Barton is now 2-2 on the season after the split. Trinidad State is 0-4. Otero is 2-3.

The Cougars played even with the Rattlers through the first quarter Friday, tied at 19-all 10 minutes into the game. The second quarter, however, was a different story.

Otero limited Barton to just 12 points in the second stanza and went to halftime up 42-31. Otero continued to pull away in the third period on the way to the 14-point win. Barton put 24 points on the board in the final quarter but it was too little too late for the Cougars.

Kilee Harris paced five Cougars in double figures with 16. The 5-10 sophomore from Protection hit 7-of-10 shots from the field and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Alexus Bryson scored 14 off the bench while Jalisa Jones, Megan Jirak and Regan Unruh all scored 10.

Elin Ekdahl led all scorers with 23 for Otero.

Saturday, Barton jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the Trojans and never trailed on the way to the win. Barton led by 11 at half and 13 after three.

The defense was constant throughout never allowing Trinidad State more than 15 points in any quarter. The Cougars limited the Trojans to just eight points the fourth period.

Jirak, a 5-10 freshman from Marion, scored 16 and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Cougars. She was the only Barton player to reach double figures. The Cougars held Trinidad State to just 35 percent shooting from the field and forced 21 turnovers.

Dominique Baker has five steals for Barton while Jones and Keneisha Winfrey had three each. Harris had eight boards.

The Cougars will be at home 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against the Tabor College JV. The game is the first of two Wednesday with the men following against the Sterling JV at 7:30 p.m.

Barton is back in classic action this weekend at the Hutchinson Quarterback Classic. Barton will play at 1:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday at the Sports Arena.
