The Great Bend Bat Cats were one play away from their first baseball shutout of the season. Anyone who has followed the Bat Cats this summer knows what happened next at Al Burns Memorial Field.

HAYSVILLE 4, BAT CATS 3 (G2) – Bat Cats pitcher Neil Lemmons fashioned a masterpiece for seven innings. But he lost a victory and a shutout on a two-out error that scored Zach Nogolski and Campbell Quirk for a 2-2 tie. An inning later, another Bat Cat error led to a two-run Haysville rally for an agonizing 4-3 setback and a sweep of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Aviator Zach Nogolski singled and Campbell Quirk walked to start the seventh. With two out, Nate Stolz’s pop fly was misplayed, allowing Nogolski and Quirk to score for a 2-2 tie.
Darian Williams reached on an eighth-inning error, stole second and third base and scored on a wild pitch. Manny Garcia’s single scored D Damond Nixon for a 4-2 lead.
Bat Cat Brendan Madsen doubled and scored on a groundout by Austin McNicholas for a 4-3 final.
Haysville (8-17) moves into sixth place and drops the punchless Bat Cats (7-19) into last place in the Jayhawk League. The teams play again at 7 p.m. Sunday at Al Burns Field.
The Bat Cats scored a pair of fourth-inning runs. Austin McNicholas doubled and Chris Swanberg singled to start the fourth. Nick Urban-Michalak singled home McNicholas. Swanberg scored on a wild pitch.

HAYSVILLE 3, BAT CATS 0 (G1) – Haysville Aviators pitcher Andres Hackman struck out 13 batters to shut out the Great Bend Bat Cats 3-0 in Saturday’s Jayhawk League baseball opener. Hackman threw a three-hit shutout with no walks.
Haysville touched Bat Cats starter Anthony Schatz for three runs. Torren Brozovich singled home Shea Gutierrez and Nate Stolz drove home Carter Cross with a first-inning sacrifice fly. Cross scored on Darian Williams’ fifth-inning sacrifice fly.
Bat Cat Nick Urban-Michalak doubled in the fifth inning. Hackman struck out Thomas Alexander and Brendan Madsen grounded out. Reece Johnson and Austin McNicholas singled.
