Bat Cats sweep Monarchs

HUTCHINSON – Great Bend Bat Cat pitchers Steven Beard and Will Mossa shut down the Hutchinson Monarchs 6-2 Friday to finish a two-game sweep.
Beard struck out five batters and Mossa yielded one hit in three innings.
The Bat Cats (8-5) move into second place ahead of the Monarchs (8-6) in the Sunflower Collegiate League Western Division. Great Bend plays at the Salina Shock Sunday.
Monarch Taylor Barber singled home Colton Cowser and Dylan Nedved for a 2-0 first-inning lead. The Monarchs were scoreless the rest of the night.
Bat Cat Ryan Monson singled home Chase Gibson after a second-inning double for a 2-1 score. Collin Meinert scored on a third-inning wild pitch. Daunte Freeman singled home Nolan Riley and Dawson Pomeroy after Riley’s single and Pomeroy’s double off pitcher Mikel Howell.
Hunter Romero and Chase Gibson scored on sixth-inning wild pitches by pitcher Dawson Dreher for a 6-2 lead.
