HESSTON – The Hesston Swathers won a pair of one-run Central Kansas League baseball games 5-4 and 10-9 over Hoisington. Hesston (6-1, 4-1 CKL) won both games over Hoisington (1-4, 1-4 CKL) in the final inning.
HESSTON 5, HOISINGTON 4 (G1) – Hesston reliever Cody Wohlgemuth retired Chase Steinert and Quentin Boxberger to preserve a 5-4 opening victory. Cardinal pitcher Holt Hanzlick struck out batters in a six-inning outing.
The Cardinals scored two fourth-inning runs. Cole Steinert tripled home Boxberger and scored on an error. Hesston’s Beau Warden doubled home Wohlgemuth and Warden scored on a groundout for a 2-2 tie.
Hesston’s played small ball in a three-run fifth inning. Brady Cox’s squeeze bunt scored Brent Cox. Tigean Lange scored on a passed ball. Warden’s squeeze bunt scored Wohlgemuth for a 5-2 lead.
Cole Steinert’s sixth-inning double scored Chase Steinert. Tony Moore’s double scored Shawn Ingram for a seventh-inning run. Wohlgemuth stranded Moore at third base to end the game by striking out Chase Steinert and getting Boxberger out on a groundout.
HESSTON 10, HOISINGTON 9 (G2) – Hesston’s Brady Cox singled home pinch runner Aedan O’Halloran with the game-winning seventh-inning run to end a wild nightcap. The Swathers drew two walks to set up the game-winning score.
Moore singled home Ingram and Boxberger stole home for a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals committed three errors to gift wrap three Hesston third-inning runs. Brady Cox scored on a bunt. Kaleb Hansen scored on a groundout. Owen O’Halloran scored on an error.
Chase Steinert scored on Layton Haxton’s fourth-inning groundout. Ingram singled home Cole Steinert for a 4-3 lead.
Three Cardinal errors and two walks handed the Swathers six runs in the sixth inning. Lange singled home Gunnar Lewis. Brady Cox doubled home Lange and Brett Cox. Brady Cox and Warden scored on errors for a 9-4 lead.
Chase Steinert doubled home Boxberger to ignite a five-run seventh inning. Cole Steinert doubled home Moore and Chase Steinert. Cole Steinert and Aylward scored on errors for a 9-9 tie.
