Cardinals split with Lyons

HOISINGTON – Hoisington’s Rhen Galla and Mason Martin each drove home three runs as the Cardinals (3-1) outslugged Lyons 12-10 for a split of Tuesday’s Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader. Lyons won the opener 3-1.

CARDINALS 12, LYONS 10 (G2) – Hoisington led 9-3 after three innings, but had to battle after the pesky Lions scored six consecutive runs for a 9-9 tie.

Martin singled home Brodie Crites and Preston Roat for an 11-9 lead in the sixth inning. Martin scored a valuable insurance run on an error.

Gratton Dalton hit  2-run single and Martin and French hit RBI singles in a 6-run second inning. Two runs scored on groundouts. Galla and Tony Moore hit RBI singles in a 3-run third inning for a 9-3 lead.

Lyons rallied when Carson Gray drove home three runs and Wrikin Scobee drove in two runs for a 9-9 tie after 51/2 innings.

LYONS 3, CARDINALS 1 (G1) – Lyons shortstop Jaiden Diasco and second baseman Ethan Luck turned a game-ending double play on Hoisington’s Mason Martin as reliever

Logan Isaac earned a save with the tying runner at first base. Lyons starter Scobee struck out five batters in 61/3 innings.

Tony Moore scored Hoisington’s run on Marcus Ingram’s sacrifice fly. Cardinal pitcher Roat struck out seven batters.

Lyons’ Solomon Goforth drove home a run and scored a run on a wild pitch.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
