Cardinal boys win Russell track title
RUSSELL – Hoisington’s Josiah Ball won the pole vault (13-3) with a season-best effort and the 300-meter hurdles (41.92) as the Cardinals won seven events to dominate the Russell Relays Track meet with 225 points.
Other individual champions for the Cardinals were Ian Doss, 800, 2:11.0; Bralen Thompson, triple jump, 41-41/2; Kaiden Hoffman, shot put, 43-10; Spencer Mintz, discus, 136-5 and the 1,600-meter relay, 3:43.0.
Runner-up finishes were earned by Bralen Thompson, long jump, 20-0; Wyatt Wikum, javelin, 144-5; Ball, 100-meter hurdles, 16.25; Doss in the 1,600, 4:54.0; and
Karter Wolf, 3,200, 10:52.0.
“The teams both had outstanding performances,” said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. “The Cardinal boys were in full force. The coaches are very proud of the girls and boys teams. The future looks good on what they can do at the Central Kansas League meet Thursday at Pratt, and the regional track meet at Phillipsburg.”
CARDINAL GIRLS – Macy Hanzlick swept the 100 (13.08) and 200 (26.48) and Shellamae Farmer won the pole vault (10-6) and 300-meter hurdles (51.91) to spark the Cardinals to second place (1801/2 points).
Kynlie Crowdis won the 1,600 (6:02.0) and the Cardinals won the 400-meter relay (51.35).
The Cardinals compiled eight runner-up finishes – Sheena Gocela, pole vault, 9-0; and 100-meters, 13.2; Kylee Hahn, 100-meter hurdles, 17.11; and 300-meter hurdles, 52.61; Crowdis, 800, 2:35.0; Sydnie Strong, javelin, 85-2; Kassy Petersilie, 3,200, 15:05.0; and the 3,200-meter relay, Hoisington, 11:57.0.
