HOISINGTON 47, RUSSELL 43

HOISINGTON — A steal by Hoisington's Livvy Brewer led to Macy Hanzlick's 3-pointer and back-to-back baskets in a 47-43 victory over Russell in Tuesday's 3A Goodland basketball substate. Russell's Emerson Nichols converted back-to-back 3-pointers for a 40-39 score and Nichols missed a go-ahead 3-pointer. Brewer's steal was followed by Hanzlick's five points for a 45-39 lead.

Hanzlick scored 21 points, including eight consecutive free throws. Kylee Hahn added eight points. The Cardinals led 17-5 after one quarter keyed by 7 of 17 shooting while the Broncos were 1 of 9 with seven turnovers. Russell's Camille Dortland scored 11 points and Nichols added nine points.

The Cardinals (14-7) play Goodland (19-2) in Friday's semifinals. Hoisington is 7-0 in tournament play after winning the Gene Keady Classic and Cardinal Winter Jam.
