HOISINGTON – The Hoisington girls are taking lessons from their boys basketball team. The Cardinals roared past Pratt with a 26-6 scoring burst en route to a hard-fought 43-35 Central Kansas League basketball victory. The Cardinals converted 4 of 31 field goals to trail 19-11 at halftime.
Suzanna Schneider’s steals and Keeley Wolf’s playing ability sparked a game-clinching 32-9 scoring surge that turned a 16-5 deficit into a 37-25 fourth-quarter advantage. Schneider and Wolf ignited a 19-6 third-quarter edge.
Wolf converted a 3-pointer off Schneider’s steal. Macy Hanzlick scored after Wolf’s steal. Schneider’s steal led to Wolf’s basket. Avery Brewer’s offensive rebound led to Wolf’s sec0nd-chance 3-pointer. Wolf fed Samantha Colson and Hanzlick for back-to-back scores. Wolf and Brewer passed to Colson for back-to-back scores for a 30-23 lead.
Hanzlick scored twice and Wolf scored on assists by Wolf and Schneider and Guthrie’s steal for a 37-25 fourth-quarter lead.
“They played really well that third quarter,” said Hoisington coach Mandy Mason. “Our 2-2-1 press caused Pratt trouble. We scored some buckets in transition. They responded really well.”
Hanzlick scored 20 points and Wolf and Colson added nine points apiece for Hoisington 6-10, 2-4 CKL), which plays at Smoky Valley Tuesday.
Pratt (4-13, 1-4 CKL) converted six 3-pointers for 18 of its 43 points. Gabby Gatlin made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points.
