Cardinal softball meets SE Saline in Wednesday finals

LYONS – Kashlin Beck ripped a pair of 2-run homers to spark Hoisington’s two-time returning state qualifier past Ellsworth 6-0 in Tuesday's 3A Lyons softball semifinal. The Cardinals (17-4) play SE Saline (20-2) at 5:30 p.m. at Lyons Wednesday for a state berth. 

CARDINALS 6, ELLSWORTH 0 – While Beck took care of the offense, reliable Cardinal pitcher Jordyn Boxberger (8-2) spun a 2-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks. 

Mollie Steiner singled home Boxberger and Beck followed with a 2-run homer in the first inning. Beck followed Steiner's double with a third-inning homer for a 5-0 lead. Tricia Schremmer scored on Claire Crutcher's single in the sixth inning.

CARDINALS 11, LYONS 1 – Hoisington rolled past Lyons 11-1 in Tuesday’s opening 3A Lyons softball regional. The Cardinals (14-7) will meet Ellsworth (16-5) in Tuesday’s semifinal game.

Hoisington’s Mollie Steiner delivered a pair of 2-run hits and drove home five runs. Kashlin Beck's single ended the ballgame on a 10-run rule.

Steiner scored on Ellie Crawford’s first inning single. Crawford scored on an error for a 2-0 lead. Lyons’ Geraldine Vargas doubled and scored on Cassie Herrera’s second-inning groundout. Courtesy runner Daijah Jones scored on Steiner’s third-inning groundout.

The Cardinals roughed up Lyons starter Jocelyn Vargas for four runs in the fourth inning. Crawford scored on Tricia Schremmer’s single. Schremmer scored on a bases-loaded walk. Paige Lamatsch and Jones scored on Steiner’s 2-run single for a 7-1 lead.

Boxberger's bases-loaded walk forced home Schremmer. Steiner's 2-run single scored Claire Crutcher and Jones. Beck's single scored Boxberger for the game-ending run.

Cardinal pitcher Emma Willesden (8-2) yielded a double to Geraldine Vargas and struck out four batters.
