HOISINGTON – Hoisington pitcher Kassidy Nixon threw a one-hit shutout as the Cardinals completed a sweep with a 12-0 over Nickerson in Monday's Central Kansas league softball doubleheader. CKL runner-up Hoisington won the opener 19-4. The Cardinals (16-4, 14-4 CKL) will be seeded second or third in the Larned 3A softball regional.
CARDINALS 19, PANTHERS 4 (G1) – Shaylah Kempke drove home four runs. She ended the run-rule victory with a double that scored Keeley Wolf to spark the Cardinals. Three Nickerson errors contributed to 11 unearned runs. Cardinal pitcher Emma Willesden earned the victory.
Hoisington scored a dozen runs in a first inning that featured six walks and four hit batters. Kempke delivered a three-run triple and Kadence Urban drilled a two-run homer. Ava Henry added an RBI single.
Jordyn Boxberger drove home Nixon in a four-run second inning. Nickerson's Lanaya Hada hit a two-run homer to spark a four-run third inning. Hoisington's Kadence Urban drove home Gracie Aylward with a third-inning sacrifice fly.
CARDINALS 12, PANTHERS 0 (G2) – Nixon struck out nine batters and yielded a single to Hada. Nixon and Boxberger each doubled and tripled to spark an 11-hit attack.
Boxberger and Chandra Ehler each drove in two runs. Urban, Nixon, Kempke, Kortney Lang and Rylie Bailey each drove home one run.
