WAKEENEY – Hoisington champion Tally Wikum led four Cardinal substate wrestling qualifiers. No. 4 ranked Wikum edged Rawlins County’s Kaleigh Morrison 10-8 in the finals.
Past state champion Ava Mull of Larned led a pair of Indians into the substate tournament Feb. 19 at Ellis.
The Cardinals also qualified No. 4 ranked runner-up Sheena Gocela (18-6, 101) who lost 8-2 to Oakley’s No. 1 Citori Bosserman; third-place Kiana Grandclair (10-7, 115); No. 5 third-place Emily Lovett (18-7, 120); and third-place Lyrica Orosco (9-1, 143).
In third-place matches, Grandclair defeated Colby’s Kathie Chavez 5-4; Lovett pinned Colby’s Amanda Jaeger (0:39); and Orosco defeated Trego’s Sydney Boyle on an injury.
Mull pinned Plainville’s Samantha Sneath (0:38) in the championship match. Pratt’s Payton Woody pinned Watkins (3:38) for third place.
