NICKERSON – Hoisington’s pitching staff shut out Nickerson 14-0 and 13-0 to sweep Thursday’s Central Kansas League season-opening baseball doubleheader.
CARDINALS 14, NICKERSON 0 (G1) – Hoisington All-CKL pitcher Tony Moore struck out 10 batters. Nickerson’s Bronson Nuss and Joshua Rodarte singled in the third, but Moore struck out Landon Haugness, Carter Schrag and Hunter McVey to end the threat.
Lane French and Kaidenn Chambers each drove home two runs. Gratton Dalton, Marcus Ingram, Tyrus Penka and Mason Martin drove in runs.
The Cardinals scored five runs in the first and fifth innings and four runs in the third frame.
CARDINALS 13, NICKERSON 0 (G2) – Hoisington’s Mason Martin struck out six batters and French struck out four batters as they combined for a 1-hit shutout. Keastin Abernathy singled to break up the no-hitter.
The Cardinals scored nine runs in the thirdd inning. Moore tripled and drove home a run. Martin, French, Dalton, Preston Roat and Kolter Hahn drove home runs.
