Cardinals qualify for regional wrestling

HOISINGTON – The Hoisington Cardinals featured four runner-up district finishers and five qualifiers for the Feb. 13 Wakeeney girls wrestling regional.

Hoisington’s second-place finishers were No. 4 Sheena Gocela (17-5, 101); Kiana Grandclair (7-6, 115); No. 4 Emily Lovett (17-6, 120); and No. 1 Tally Wikum (23-2, 138).

In championship matches, Oakley’s No. 1 Citori Bosserman pinned Gocela (5:45); Colby’s No. 4 Kathie Chavez defeated Grandclair, 7-6; Oakley’s Mikyah Cain defeated Lovett, 11-0; and Rawlins County’s Kaileigh Morrison upset Wikum 5-2.

Cardinal Lyrica Orosco (6-12, 143) placed fourth with a loss (2:27) to Rawlins County’s Xavia Brenn.

The Cardinals scored 60 points to finish second behind Ellis (76). The top four regional finishers qualify for the Division 2 state tournament.
