Cardinal softball splits pair

 

HAVEN – Hoisington’s softball team was one out away from upsetting Haven for first place in the Central Kansas League.

But Haven stole the second game 12-11 with two unearned seventh inning runs. Hoisington won Friday’s opener 8-4.

Hoisington (6-2, 6-2 CKL) plays Hesston (1-9, 0-8 CKL) and Haven (5-3, 5-1 CKL) plays at Larned (4-6, 2-6 CKL) Tuesday.

HOISINGTON 8, HAVEN 4 (G1) — Hoisington pitcher Taylor Boxberger (4-1) struck out seven batters and held Haven’s hot-hitting team in check. Gracie Aylward and Trinity Dolezal each drove in two runs.

Haven’s Karen Nisly drove home Maguire Estill and Kaylie Kincaid for a 2-0 lead. Boxberger’s sacrifice fly started a three-run fourth inning. Kassidy Nixon tripled home Jenna Urban and Nixon scored on Kadence Urban’s single for a 3-2 lead.

Dolezal’s two-run homer off pitcher Brooke Brawner drove home Aylward for a 5-2 lead. Kylie Hefling and Estill delivered RBI extra-base hits for a 5-4 score after five innings.

Bailee Bachar singled home Kadence Urban and Alyward doubled home Kenzie Wolf and Bachar for an 8-4 lead.

HAVEN 12, HOISINGTON 11 (G2) – Haven’s Brooke Brawner scored the tying run on an error and Maquire Estill scored the game-winning run on an error with two out in the seventh inning.

The Cardinals led 6-0. Jenna Urban doubled home Aylward and Dolezal and Nixon singled home Jenna Urban in a four-run first inning. Brooke Steinert scored on an error and Aylward scored on Dolezal’s sacrifice fly for a 6-0 lead.

Haven’s Brawner drilled a three-run double and Yoder and Kincaid had RBIs in a five-run fourth inning.

The Cardinals led 10-5 after a four-run fifth inning. Kadence Urban singled home Jenna Urban. Riley Brungardt scored a run. Bachar singled home Nixon and Kadence Urban for a 10-5 lead.

Haven’s Carlee Arnold and Brawner delivered two-run hits and Hefling added an RBI single for a 10-10 tie after five innings.

Bailee Bachar doubled home Kadence Urban in the seventh inning for an 11-10 lead.
