CLAFLIN – The Central Plains Oilers have canceled their first two 2020 football games due to missed practices because of quarantine orders issued by the Barton County Health Department.

Oiler home football games against Kinsley Sept. 4 and Tescott Sept. 11 have been canceled.

Players had to quarantine after being close to someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.

“It has been a rough week around here,” said Central Plains football coach Chris Steiner. “We drop our first two games of the season as we are in quarantine at this time. We will not have our 14 mandatory practices in until week 3 against Otis-Bison.”

The Oilers will return to workouts Sept. 5, but they must meet the requirement of 14 mandatory practices before they can play at Otis-Bison Sept. 18.

The Central Plains volleyball team and the Great Bend volleyball team have also missed practice time this week due to quarantine orders.

The Oilers’ volleyball team has rescheduled a home quadrangular scheduled Sept. 3 for Sept. 21.
