HAYS— Anson Hall delivered for seven innings from the hill to help lead Great Bend to a 6-5 edging over Paola in Friday’s opening round of the Wild West Fest in Hays. The Chiefs took that momentum into Friday’s nightcap and issued an 8-0 shutout win over Doherty (Colorado) behind Bryce Lytle’s complete game performance.
In Saturday play, Jaxx Hillman went the distance from the mound and supplied some needed fuel at the plate with a walk off hit in a 5-4 win over Colorado Baseball Academy. Stranded baserunners cost the Chiefs in the final contest of the tournament as Dodge City sneaked past Great Bend in a 6-4 decision.
The Chiefs are 18-13 on the season and will play Pratt on the road Wednesday. The midweek doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
