Claflin native Jim Homolka, a two-time NCAA Division-II All-America selection as a defensive lineman at Fort Hays State University (1976-77), recently was inducted into the FHSU Hall of Fame on Nov. 5.
A 1978 graduate of Fort Hays, Homolka was a four-year letterwinner for the Tigers in a college playing career that began in 1974.
Homolka was also a two-time All-CSIC and All-District 10 selection at defensive tackle. In his career at Fort Hays, he amassed 199 tackles, including a staggering 81 as a senior, which is an elevated number for a defensive lineman.
For his career, Homolka also recorded five fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and one interception.
An interesting highlight occurred during his only pick, which happened during his junior season. He returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown.
