BUHLER – After 76 seconds, Great Bend Panther Jenna Mauler was tagged with two fouls.
The trend continued all night as Buhler’s girls survived a foul fest 53-45 in Tuesday’s non-league basketball game. The foul- festival featured 24 first-half fouls and 56 fouls.
The Crusaders converted 25 of 40 free throws to outscore the Panthers by 15 points at the charity stripe.
The taller and more physical Crusaders took advantage inside, but also benefited from some friendly block-charge calls that went their way. Back-to-back block-charging calls swung Buhler’s way in the decisive third period as Sydney Unruh and Kaylee Unruh were tagged with fouls despite outstanding defensive position.
