Eagle baseball sweeps Bearcats

ELLINWOOD – Ellinwood baseball coach Roger Ward worked his magic for a pair of 1-run wins over Ellsworth – 5-4 and 11-10 in Monday’s non-league doubleheader.

EAGLES 5, ELLSWORTH 4 (G1) – Ellinwood reliever Dylan Gantz worked 21/3 innings to earn a save after starter Bryan Jaske pitched 42/3 innings with nine strikeouts.

Ellsworth’s Cole Webber doubled in Daxton Leiker in the first inning. Ellinwood’s Gantz singled home Cooper Hosman and Gantz scored on a third-inning wild pitch.

The Eagles manufactured three fourth-inning runs. Drake Hosman scored on a steal. Cooper Hosman scored on a Gantz fly ball that was misplayed and Chase Gibson scored on the error after he doubled.

Leiker and Cade Gwinner scored on Webber’s fifth-inning triple. Lane Rolfs doubled home Gwinner in the seventh inning. Gantz retired Wyatt Bohnen to end the ballgame.

EAGLES 11, ELLSWORTH 10 (G1) – After losing a 6-run lead, Ellinwood’s Gantz delivered the game-winning single to score the clinching run after two outs were recorded. Drake Hosman reached on an error and Cooper Hosman singled. Gibson reached on another error to load the bases.

Campbell Coleman’s 3-run homer staked the Eagles to a 6-0 lead. Coleman drove in four runs. Gibson, Gantz and Drake Hosman drove home runs in the first inning.

Coleman singled home Bryan Jaske in the second inning. Cooper Hosman scored to ignite a 3-run fourth inning. Jaske delivered an RBI single and Jaske scored on Cooper Gunn’s bunt for a 10-9 lead.

Ellsworth’s Cole Webber continued his hot hitting with a homer, three hits and four runs batted home.
