HOISINGTON 39, LA CROSSE 38 — Mason Martin achieved every kid's dream with the game-winning 3-pointer to spark the Hoisington Cardinals past La Crosse 39-38 in Tuesday's Hoisington Winter Jam.

La Crosse's Lee Holopirek and 6-6 Logan Skillett hit back-to-back baskets for a 38-35 lead.

Down 38-35, Martin made one of three free throws after getting fouled on a 3-pointer. But the Cardinals regained the ball after Tony Moore hustled on a rebound that bounced off La Crosse. An inbounds pass to Caiden Hoffman deflected to Martin, who triggered a wild celebration.

"I told our guys crazier things have happened," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "When the ball went out-of-bounds, it gave us a chance to run an inbounds play. Mason Martin has done that before. He stepped up."

Moore scored 13 points and Martin added 11. Gage Burk led La Crosse with 11 points and Logan Skillett added 10 points.

"Our group never stopped playing defense," Haxton said. "They executed our game plan."
