NESS CITY — After a wild 12-11 opener, Ellinwood’s softball team cruised past Ness City 17-3 to complete a doubleheader sweep Tuesday. 

ELLINWOOD 12, NESS CITY 11 (G1) — Ellinwood pitcher Teigan Torres retired Jena Ratliff to preserve a 12-11 victory in eight hard-fought innings.

Torres blasted a three-run first-inning homer after back-to-back walks to Jocelyn Brown and Ashlynn Raya.  Jaiden Pavla’s single scored Kass McGranahan for a 3-1 score. Caitlin Smee’s double scored Amy Foos and Andrea Morales after back-to-back third-inning walks for a 3-3 tie.

Elaina Hernandez scored on a groundball and Brown followed with an RBI double to score Jenny Magner in a four-run fourth inning. Ray’s double scored Kaitlyn Pohlman and Brown for a 7-3 lead. 

Ness City’s Pavla doubled home Amy Foos in the fourth inning. Virginia Schaben delivered an RBI single and Morales scored on a fifth-inning error for a 7-6 score.

Magner scored on a bases-loaded walk and Taryn Robl scored on a groundball for a 9-6 Ellinwood lead. Ness City’s Ratliff scored after an error, hit batter and wild pitch and Pavla scored on a passed ball for an 9-8 score after six innings. Schaben scored in the seventh inning to force extra innings. 

Brown’s eighth-inning single scored Pohlman and Brown scored on a bases-loaded walk. Raya scored on a groundball for a 12-9 lead.

Ness City’s Taylor Murray and Alysson Foos scored eighth-inning runs.

ELLINWOOD 17, NESS CITY 3 (G2) — Teigan Torres drove home five runs with a pair of doubles to spark a 14-hit attack. Ellinwood scored eight runs in the second inning. Raya drove home three runs. Kaitlyn Panning and Jocelyn Brown each drove home two runs. Pohlman and Brooke McReynolds each drove home a run.

Ellinwood pitcher Torres pitched superbly with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
