Ellinwood softball wins three of four games

ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood’s softball team was halfway home after a solid 17-2 victory over Little River. But the Redskins happily accepted Ellinwood’s generosity in a 17-11 victory in the nightcap.

The Eagles (11-7) and Little River (5-12) both play in the 2A Sterling softball regional.

ELLINWOOD 17, LITLLE RIVER 2 (G1) — Ellinwood’s Anahi Mendez doubled, tripled and drove home four runs. Kaitlyn Panning, Teigan Torres, Ashlynn Raya and Emily Magner each drove home two runs.

In a seven-run first inning, Torres drilled a two-run double and the Eagles scored on two walks and hit batters with the bases loaded and a groundout.

Mendez drilled a bases-loaded double and Emily Magner delivered an RBI single in a five-run second inning for a 12-0 lead. Panning hit an RBI double, Raya an RBI triple and Lauren Petz an RBI single in a game-ending five-run fourth inning. 

LITTLE RIVER 17, ELLINWOOD 11 (G2) — Ellinwood’s defense couldn’t catch a cold. The Eagles collapsed in a nightmarish 14-error effort. It was a team effort with seven Eagles committing errors.

Ellinwood’s Torres drove home three runs and Petz and Jocelyn Brown each drove in two runs.

Torres, Raya, Emily Magner and Brown drove home first-inning runs. Torres’ two-run homer brought home Panning in the second inning. Petz ripped an RBI double and Petz scored for an 11-8 score after five innings.

Raya and Petz delivered RBIs in a three-run sixth inning to slice the margin to 12-11. But Little River scored five runs in the seventh inning.

Ellinwood softball walks past Skyline

PRATT —Walk this way. Walk this way.

Ellinwood’s softball team swept Pratt Skyline 19-1 and 17-0, taking advantage of 31 walks and 11 hit batters in the doubleheader. Ellinwood pitcher Teigan Torres (10-6) earned both victories.

ELLINWOOD 19, SKYLINE 1 (G1) — Ellinwood delivered four hits in the walkfest. Lauren Petz doubled and drove home three runs. Elaina Hernandez and Anahi Mendez each doubled and drove in two runs. Kaitlyn Pohlman singled and drove in a run.

Torres struck out seven batters in three innings. 

Skyline pitchers Madison Adams and Kyrian Keeling combined to walk 20 batters with five hit batters.

ELLINWOOD 17, SKYLINE 0 (G2) — Torres (10-6) was sharper with a one-hit shuout with six strikeouts in three innings. Kyrian Keeling singled for Skyline (0-16).

Brooke McReynolds doubled and drove home three runs. Ashlynn Raya and Elaina Hernandez each doubled and drove home two runs. Torres forced home two runs without a hit.

The Eagles benefited from 17 baserunners without a hit. Skyline pitcher Molly Meiklejohn walked 11 batters and hit six batters.
